Don't let the dining room fool you. It may look run down but the food is so good. I can live just off the salt and pepper tofu and the Hunan fried fish. One of the best Chinese food on the westbank. Can't get enough of the tofu

For 7.50$ I am able to get more than full here. I ordered the general chicken with crab rangoons and fried rice every time. The chicken does not have the second layer of breading that gets all gooey that you often see when ordering general chicken, and the flavor is awesome. During my two week stay I have eaten here many times. The building may be a little misleading but the food is excellent.

Lucky garden is conveniently located right across from where I live so that's one of the first things I like about it. My first impression (based on how it looked inside and out) was a wok to go style Chinese restaurant. After eating the food I realized it was VERY good and it was actually a REAL restaurant. The food is always hot, super good, and they're very generous with portions. Food gets 5 stars hands down. however, I don't really understand why they don't keep an updated menu on their website. There is a menu link, but when you click it it says "online ordering is unavailable at this time" Just post a menu and keep it updated! no online ordering necessary. At the end of the day it is a Great place.

If you're hungry, heading north in Belle Chasse, and the bridge is up, don't despair. Lucky Garden Chinese, tucked in the inside south bound side of the big curve, is a good choice for traditional (as in American traditional) Chinese food. As one might expect from a more remote place, prices are favorable. Especially noteworthy is the dinner special for $8.95. Most Chinese places have a low-cost lunch option, usually in the six to seven dollar range, but dinner specials under ten dollars are rare. The dinner special portions are very generous. The specials menu consists of two paired entrees and a side of a well-prepared pork fried rice, for most choices. Some of the choices, such as were heavy on the meat. We had the pork lo mien with crab Rangoon and honey chicken with eggroll. There are one and two dollar charges for substitutions and upgrades, but even with those you will still be getting meat and two for less than twelve bucks. The pork lo mien was dark, flavorful, and contained higher than average coefficient of meat-to-other-stuff (i.e., more meat, less stuff). The "other stuff" was crisp and fresh. The pork lo mein and fried rice were good, but the real standout on this plate was the crab Rangoon. These delicately fried triangles had one of the creamiest crab centers in our dining party's collective experience. Highly recommended. Honey chicken? The waiter's description of "chicken strips sprinkled with honey" evoked an expectation far afield from what actually arrived: hunks of white meat chicken encapsulated in breading and coated with a sweet sauce. When measured on the breading density spectrum, the coating falls somewhere between tempura and fairway corn dog, moistened by that sauce that definitely had real honey in it. Not my favorite, but if you like meat deep fried with breading and sweet sauce, try it. The egg roll was fresh, crisp, and otherwise unremarkable. The ambiance is pleasant and familiar: a large room with a few Chinese lanterns along the side. A large party of folks of Eastern origin came in and claimed a big table. My wife and I looked at each other and simultaneously said, under our breath, "now there's a good sign". If you have a child in tow, ask to sit (or just choose to sit) away from the annoying TV on the wall in back--especially if you're dining while "Biggest Loser" is on the air. "Look, Daddy, that man has boobies!" is not exactly the most appetizing topic for table conversation--especially if Daddy does indeed look.

Tucked in Belle Chasse, is a hidden gem for Chinese food that will have you coming back for more. Every time I come here, I always come with a decent amount of people or family to make my visit's worth by ordering a variety of family sized dished to share. The portions are huge and there's ALWAYS leftovers to bring home. So far every dish I've tried here has been delicious. The crab rangoon here is definitely my favorite and the BEST crab rangoon I ever had. Salt and Pepper Calamari. Salt and Pepper Chicken, Hunan Fish. Lobster. Fried Tofu. Drooling as I type out my favorite dishes behind this screen at the moment. The place is mad legit and you probably won't find another place like this in the westbank.

Love the food here!!!!! The interior is very old fashioned and can feel a bit sticky sometimes but when the food comes out you kind of forget about all that. My favorite dishes : -bacon and crab Rangoon (really light and flakey) -salt and pepper calamari (it can be salty but the taste balances well when you use lemon juice and pepper) -and crispy tofu (the sauce with it is so good) Service is slow sometimes but they get it done! The portions are also very generous.

35 different, inexpensive lunch specials. Food was delicious, the portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. Adjacent to Riverside Hotel.

This is as good as it gets in the West Bank (or to me it does..). If you're coming here, don't have high expectations for Chinese restaurants. Personally, I think MOST Chinese restaurants have irks to it - like dirty floor or bad service, etc. This is coming from a Chinese San Franciscan if that matters, haha. But anywho, guess what guys?! I'm back in NOLA! First day arriving back, my mom said she wanted to take the family and I out to dinner as a welcome back kinda thing. She took us here and I think she made a good choice. The dinner was good and I felt like I was feastin' tonight! I'll keep this review short and simple with a star system and a few side notes: Service - 4/5 Food - 4/5 Food was good. I highly recommend the Red Fish because I feel like you can't really get it anywhere else... that or it's just hard to find. Lobster was good too but I wish there was more 'flavor' to it. Oh, and they have NO ALCOHOL (at all). :( Ambiance - 2/5 Since the beginning and end of my dinner meal (7-9pm?), I felt that it was very quiet in here. There was probably about 4 other parties in here during the course of my meal. They do have a lot of seating for big or small parties. Decor - 1/5 Very bland, I wish they have more decorations up! They do have have some tacky Christmas decorations up though, for the holidays. :) My family loves coming here because they think it's one of the "legit" Chinese restaurants around. Good enough for me! I would definitely come back :)

Meh, The sesame chicken wasn't really a sesame sauce. More of a red sauce similar to general Tso's but not spicy and a little too greasy. They use dark meat which normally grosses me out and I somehow forgot to ask for white meat but thank god it was not completely disgusting. I didn't bite into anything unpleasant - they must do a decent job of trimming the thigh meat. The prices were great. A lunch plate is $7 and is pretty big. It comes with a side item (4 crab rangoons on mine) and pork fried rice. I'd try it again.

They brought me the wrong tea, they didn't have what I ordered, they brought our lunches 5 minutes apart. Blah. At least it tastes ok. And by ok I mean ok. Thats it. Not good. This place was good when it opened 4 months ago, its crap now. Everything tastes reheated. I ordered dumplings, the waitress came and said "are you sure you want those? They will take 12 minutes" Whatever, I won't go back.

We've been here 5 times so far and every single time, the food has been exceptional! The soups are wonderful, the crab rangoons are amazingly crispy and light. Plus, large portions. For their lunch special, it's $6.95. For that, you get soup of your choice, crab rangoons , your dish and pork fried rice. The flavor is so spot on that even if it was 10+ bucks a person, I'd still think I was getting a good value. Pro-tip, besides some of the great authentic Chinese dishes, the General's Chicken is like the best fried chicken ever, with a beautiful and rich sauce. The peppers they use are dried and chewy and smoky and are perfect with the dish. So while we've not had anything that wasn't good, the General's chicken is a stand out. And I usually don't even like General's chicken but this is above and beyond good. I would recommend this restaurant to novice Chinese food people all the way to fresh off the boat from China. As a matter of fact, when we went there today, there were two huge tables of Chinese people having Sunday dinner. The dishes that were coming out of the kitchen just about killed me because they looked so amazing. Go. Eat

Food was OK. Beef chow fan was dry and had a slight charred taste. The meat was bland. The beef with broccoli looked excellent, but it too was bland. However, the teriyaki beef, egg rolls and dumplings were tasty, as was the pork fried rice. The staff was friendly and attentive.

My favorite, favorite, favorite family dinner place! This used to be the original Double Dragon. Although the name has changed, the menu really hasn't. Well, it has my favorites. Always good for groups for they have a few large tables as well as smaller ones. 1. HUNAN FISH - My favorite. It's a fried whole red fish. It's a must try! No where makes their fish like this. 2. FRIED TOFU - My favorite, too. If I could just get this tofu and the hunan fish every day, my life would be made. This tofu comes out steaming hot and fried to perfection. It's crispy and the tofu is perfect, not too soft, not too hard, and not chewy. The dip makes it superb! I don't know what it is. Probably something so simple. But it's like a thick brown sauce.... tastes like it has a bit of oyster sauce in it or something. I don't know. But maybe I love the tofu because of the sauce too... I don't know. i just love everything here. 3. Lobster - the lobster with the ginger is my son's favorite. He can eat a whole order by himself. There are several ways the lobster is served but this has to be his favorite. 4. Rau muong xao toi - Watercress sauteed with garlic. Great veggie side dish that compliments any Vietnamese meal and they cook it great here! 5. Muc rang muoi - Fried calamari seasoned with pepper and other stuff. VERY TASTY! My siblings always have to have this. What's great also is that compared to other Vietnamese family style restaurants, this place is also reasonably priced. I love this place. I pick this place any time anyone asks me what I want to eat, and they're tired of eating here because I just want it all the time!

I've gotta admit, I wasn't too sure what to expect here. I went based soley on previous Yelp reviews. Once again, Yelp did not disappoint. Upon entering, I was taken aback by the extremely bland decor. This restaurant did not waste any startup money on the standard Chinese flair you see in most all other Chinese restaurants. Regardless, I was unaffected by this and continued on to my table. There were plenty of good sized tables so group seating wasn't an issue. This is not a Chinese buffet. Strictly menu with tons of lunch specials for about $6-7. The plates are loaded with whatever you end up ordering so you won't leave hungry. I asked the waitress to hold the MSG which she did. What the hell is MSG anyway? Moving on... My group ordered lots of random stuff off the lunch special menu. All six of us were happy. I would have to say that this place ranks at the top of my all time favorite Chinese food restaurants.

Place looks run down and old. Smell of the place smelt greasy. It look like no one dust the place. Food was okay. Needs more flavor. Don't expect it to be like real chinese food. You come to NOLA for Cajun food not chinese.

Even though the menu mainly contains Americanized Chinese food, the restaurant does offer authentic Cantonese style dishes. I am a Chinese, and whenever I crave for Cantonese food, this restaurant will not disappoint me. I would say this is one of the best authentic Cantonese style restaurant around the city. As far as the quality, food is very tasty and the portion sizes are very generous. This restaurant can cook roasted BBQ pork, in which many of the Chinese restaurants around the city do not offer. They also have one of the best roasted duck that I have ever had. They made the duck's skin crispy but the meat inside is juicy. I have to say the cook does have some amazing roasting techniques. The other dish I would recommend is the fried tofu. Crispy on the outside but soft and firm inside. It is seasoned with some spicy peppers. You can ask for seafood sauce and it goes well with the fried tofu. It's just soooo goooddd... I would definitely go back more for it.. I have not yet tried their lunch menu but they do have a lot of selections. They offer free dessert (the Chinese call it sweet soup) on Friday/Saturday night and maybe even Sunday night.

Best Chinese food on the Westbank! The chow chows are to die for. The rice is always flavorful. Such a treat to eat there!

You can usually tell a lot about chinese restaurants just by judging thier fried rice. This restaurant's pork fried rice is very good. I've been here on the base down the road from here for a few years and I haven't had a bad experience from this place. The food is always fresh and the service is friendly which is a rare thing nowadays.

Very disappointed. After hearing rave reviews about this Chinese place from several locals, we decided to check them out for a family dinner. First off, the place was pretty dingy inside with only a few families dining. Not a good sign, but things got MUCH worse from there. The service was absolutely abhorrent. We never did figure out who our waiter actually was: neither the gentleman who seated us and came back to take our drink order or the lady who picked up from that point acted like they were responsible for the process. This was accentuated by the fact that drinks were never refilled, no one ever checked on us at all actually, and we had to wait 15 minutes for the bill before someone came to check why we hadn't paid up yet. Oh yeah, and my food order was never put in the first time! I had to go up to the counter and ask about my Moo Sho after everyone else got their food and my place was still empty. :-(. No one would ever even acknowledge the oversight, but did they think I wouldn't notice that my plate came out 20 minutes after everyone else's? There were numerous other shortcomings in the service department, too numerous to wax about here. And the mediocre food was not enough to overcome my dismay. The fried rice was delicious and portion of the dinner specials made them well worth the $7.99 price. However, everyone's entrees themselves looked only marginally appetizing. The orange sauce was overly sweet but otherwise bland. Nothing to write home about here. Despite being close by and having a large menu selection, I will definitely not be coming back!

I try to go as much as possible. I love the food and the service has always been the best. I went there every Sunday for a year and didn't get tired of it. The best Chinese food on the westbank hands down. Try the garlic lobster it's the best. The best Chinese seafood you'll find.

This was our go to place when we were working Belle Chasse. Food is quick, good, cheap, and plenty of it. Great lunch specials. Some of the lunch specials come with boneless spare ribs instead of an egg roll, and the spare ribs are basically a meal on their own. I also saw some people ordering lobsters for a party later that week, so I think they can do special seafood orders as well.

Legit, best word to describe it. Some of the best Chinese food I have had and without a doubt, the best on the Westbank. Under staffed for a Sunday afternoon but the staff was working hard and so much business can only mean they're doing things right. Wouldn't mind a little more decor but without a doubt, my family and I will be back.
